This is a time-lapse for a Magic card I painted a couple of years back, something I was meaning to post on my old site but never got around to it. If there's any interest in this sort of thing I'll post some more recent vids.
This was done in one sitting and took about five hours start to finish. Mostly acrylics with a bit of gouache (apologies for the dodgy video quality.)
Fantastic! His art has been a great inspiration to me!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely post more! Do you just use water for acrylic washes?
ReplyDeleteI mostly use those FW acrylic inks, or nowadays Liquitex also make some good inks.
DeleteOut of curiosity, do you mostly just stick to traditional media or do you do a mixture of digital and traditional now? I really love your backgrounds, especially in the Dota 2 comic.
DeleteAMAZING!!! I've been a fan for years and I just discovered your blog page. Thank you for posting the video, Jim. Would love to see more!
ReplyDeleteHi Jim,
ReplyDeleteYesss, please post more of these vids!
Great to see your painting skills.
Best, Sander Rave
Many thanks Sander! I'll post some more when I get a chance to put them together. The good news is I have a better camera now.
DeleteWOW you have an blog! amazing art!! and yes more vids please!!
ReplyDeleteHere Here! I enjoy watching you build your paintings layer by layer. Would love to see Pentarch Paladin time lapse. Well just about any of your paintings really. But that one is a fave. Oh and WOW Dark Elf - yummy!
ReplyDeleteGreat stuff! Was that Take Hart music in the background? It sounded familiar:)
ReplyDeleteHa! You are correct Sir...
DeleteBeautifully done! Thanks for posting it up. So that was all FW Inks then? It looked like watercolour to start and then I wondered how did you bring the contrast and light into it so well. Are they easy to use and layer? I'm not familiar with the inks so will google them. :)
ReplyDelete5 Hours!!! Bloody hell, you're either really fast, or I am snail-slow.
ReplyDeleteGreat work sir, would love to see more!
Incredible work Jim. Thanks for sharing your process! I look forward to any more you post in the future! If you ever get a chance I'd love it if you could drop by my blog sometime. =)

ReplyDeleteAny chance you have videos of you painting some of the dota 2 art/comic? I love your style but those are my favorite that I've seen from you.

I am looking to buy an artist proof of the Reaper King for my commander deck. I already have one that is foil, but a signed artist proof would be even better. Do you have any of them left? If not, do you accept cards in the mail for signatures? Btw, one of my favorite art pieces in Magic. Best looking scarecrow I've seen, it's unique and macabre. Thanks!
